An eastern pondhawk dragonfly takes a moment’s rest from hunting. Like all dragonflies, this one is a monster when it comes to consuming insects. Pondhawks often take prey, such as damselflies, that are as large as they are. This one is a young male that has yet to turn completely blue. They are very territorial and will defend the area they claim as their own, guarding potential egg-laying sites in hopes of attracting females.
